Sustainability at its Heart

The festival has committed to reduce its impact on the environment by minimising the use of single-use plastics. Participants are encouraged to carry reusable water bottles and the festival has eliminated the usage of single-use, non-degradable plastic plates, cups, and cutlery. 

All the money earned from the festival is used for organising the festival and associated expenses. The festival strives to keep the prices as low as possible to enable maximum participation. Although the walk leaders volunteer their services without any charge, the prices charged do not cover the complete expenses of providing insurance, transportation, and a booking administration system. Thus, the festival makes up the balance through generous sponsorship by several Arran businesses, social events, and the Friends scheme.

Amy Laurenson

Hailing from the enchanting Shetland Isles and currently calling Glasgow home, Amy Laurenson is a remarkable pianist whose musical journey weaves together the traditional melodies of her Shetland roots with the rich tapestry of Scottish, Irish, and Scandinavian folk tunes. Raised in a household surrounded by classical influences, Amy’s unique style gracefully oscillates between traditional, classical, and jazz realms, challenging preconceived notions about the piano’s role in traditional music. 

Crowned BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2023 at Celtic Connections, Amy has graced stages across the UK, from the Shetland Folk Festival to the Edinburgh TradFest.

The Genesis of the Runrig Experience: 

Richie Muir, an Edinburgh singer/guitarist and lifelong Runrig enthusiast, seized the opportunity presented by the lockdown to launch a Facebook page dedicated to acoustic covers of Runrig classics. Teaming up with band manager Ben Marshall, the concept of a live show honouring Runrig’s legacy was conceived. This was not to be a conventional ‘look-a-like’ tribute but a heartfelt celebration of the band’s contributions to the music industry, Scotland, and the lives of their fans.
