So, what is the Snorkel Trail?
The Arran Snorkelling Trail is an exciting new adventure for snorkel enthusiasts. Launched on July 17, it showcases the stunning bays and beaches of Arran, allowing visitors to explore the hidden wonders beneath the island’s waves. Developed in partnership by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and the Community of Arran Seabed Trust (COAST), as part of the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Living Seas program, this trail is a valuable addition to Scotland’s expanding network of snorkel trails. Supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, the trail encompasses six different Hotspots on the island:
- Clauchlands Farm
- Lamlash
- Whiting Bay
- Kildonan
- Imachar
- Lochranza.

It’s a cinch to access, with an easy saunter across the sandy beach. And what a sight it is! There’s an absolute treasure trove of marine wonders to behold, making it an absolute bonzer location for beginners and young snorkelers alike. But for those with a bit more experience under their belts, adventure awaits further out on a low tide. Head towards the mooring buoys, and prepare to be gobsmacked by the awe-inspiring seagrass habitat. Be careful on the jetty during low tide, as it can be slippery!
Kildonan

The best way to enter this aquatic wonderland is to dive right off the pebble beach on either side of the outcrop. Timing is everything, though, my friends. I recommend snorkeling this site for an hour before and after high tide to experience its full glory. And for you advanced snorkelers out there, don’t forget to pack a trusty torch. It’ll allow you to explore the hidden nooks and crannies between the rocks. Imachar is an absolute cracker!
Lamlash
