About:
Lagg Distillery is a place of both beauty and craftsmanship. The distillery was built in 2017, and its visitor center opened two years later to the waiting world. The architects behind the distillery took care to echo the contours of Arran island, as one would see it from Ailsa Craig. The roofs are covered with a sedum blanket, which contains a mix of plants that change color with the seasons. In August 2018, custom-made copper pot stills were installed on the distillery floor, and now sit alongside the mash tun and four traditional wooden washbacks. The end result is a distillery that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional, embodying the best of both worlds.
Highlights:
Lagg Distillery is located on the Isle of Arran, and it is known for its peated whisky. The distillery uses traditional methods to produce the whisky, but it also has a contemporary style. The highlight of the distillery is the way that it combines these two elements. The distillery has a modern look, with sleek lines and a minimalistic design. However, the stills are traditional copper pot stills, and the whisky is matured in oak barrels. This combination of old and new gives the whisky a unique flavor that is unlike any other peated whisky on the market. Lagg Distillery is definitely worth a visit for anyone who is interested in trying something new.
Food:
Lagg Distillery is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal with stunning views of the Islay coastline. The Kilmory Café and the Shieling Bistro serve coffee and cakes as well as a wide range of lunch menu. The food is freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients, and there is something to suit every taste. The Café has a relaxed atmosphere, making it the ideal place to catch up with friends, while the Bistro offers a more intimate dining experience. With its beautiful setting and excellent cuisine, Lagg Distillery is the perfect place to enjoy on a special occasion with family or friends.
Review:
Walking into Lagg Distillery is like stepping into a piece of history. The building has been designed to reflect the traditional style of a Scottish farmhouse, and the warm atmosphere is immediately inviting. Even the process of making the whiskey is unique, using water from a nearby stream that has been filtered through ancient peat bog. The result is a smooth and rich whiskey that is truly exceptional. Whether you’re enjoying a dram in the on-site bar or taking a tour of the distillery, a visit to Lagg Distillery is an unforgettable experience.
