Alpaca Origins
Tom and Emma Jessop are the proud owners of Arran Alpacas and Balmichael Glamping. In 2019, they decided to leave behind their busy lives on the mainland and move to the picturesque Isle of Arran along with their three children. During the planning phase of their glamping business, they discovered a herd of alpacas and were instantly smitten by their charm and beauty. Before they knew it, Tom and Emma had become alpaca farmers!
They now offer a range of experiences that include alpaca treks and seasonal events and sessions, all of which come with complimentary refreshments and access to our play area and games room.
Meet the Herd
Arran Alpacas has an adorable and distinctive herd of alpacas that are sure to win your heart! These animals have unique personalities that shine through their behaviour and interactions with each other and visitors. The alpaca gang consists of Dougal, Clyde, Gordie, Wallace, Glen, Nevis, Lomond, Murdo, Murray, Elliot, and Mac. Each alpaca has its own charm and quirks that make them special, whether it’s Dougal’s leadership, Clyde’s strength, or Glen’s curious nature. Lomond is a popular trekker, while Sir Lancelot, the llama, enjoys getting close and personal. Arran Alpacas is thrilled to share their lovable herd with visitors, and each animal is sure to make your day!
Alpaca Treks: A Fun-Filled 60-Minute Experience
The alpaca trek is a 60-minute experience that begins with an introduction to our charming alpacas, and an opportunity to learn some fun alpaca facts. This is followed by a short health and safety briefing, visitors are matched with an alpaca pal and given a bag of feed to help win them over (although, our alpacas are easily won over!).
Then it’s time for the trek! Visitors enjoy a leisurely walk around our glamping site with plenty of time to ask questions and enjoy some friendly banter. You are encouraged visitors to take plenty of photos, including group shots with their new alpaca friends.
After the trek, everyone is welcome to enjoy a complimentary refreshment at the cosy onsite café, ‘The Ben.’ Kids can also participate in free alpaca craft or head out to play in our park.
